I also am looking for a Grandfather Donald John or John Donald Pryor who was a lawyer and left Ireland in the latter half of the nineteenth century to reside in the Bronx, New York. The family had twelve children; my mother Evelyn was one of them.

How wonderful if they all could be found but even one found person adds up to less heartbreak in the world. To all those that may be missing and intentionally do not want to be found please please just contact someone to let them know that you are well and alive.

comments: I have just found this website today.
I was never really interested in missing persons cases in ireland till i read “missing” by barry cummins and then “Frozen Blood” by Michael Sheridan.
My heart bleeds for all the families as there can never be any closure to their grief.
I am also convinced that there are 2 people at the moment who have some if not all the answers as regarding the missing women in leinster.
The chances of another same pattern killer in this area are nil.
I believe these 2 should be injected with truth serium, cos they wont talk otherwise.
Anyone who has half an interest in this case knows who im talkin about.
Also what wud be the harm of digging up the disused quarry mentioned in “Frozen Blood”.
The Gardai have nothing else to go on and this is staring them in the face.
It would all be dug up in a few hours.
ABSOLUTELY CRAZY.

Unfortunately this year, Dermots brother Derek passed away. Derek had been missing for 3 months. I would just like to praise Dermot Jr and Dermot Sr for the dignity and courage they showed all through the many television and radio appearances during that 3 months. It wasn’t easy but they gave other people hope.

comments: Like a lot of people recently, I have read several books about Ireland’s missing people (Missing Without Trace in Ireland, and Frozen Blood) and am appalled at what I read. First and foremost the relentless pain and suffering for the families involved, the lack of counselling services offered by relevant authorities, the insufficiency by An Garda Siochana to immediately carry out prolonged searches after a person is reported missing, etc. Operation Trace was a good idea, and while flawed in parts, the fact that it was in set up in the first place gave a clear message of consistent work being done to find the missing and/or murdered. The fact that it ‘closed’ within a few years, through lack of resources or a thawing of political will must be heartbreaking for the families. The sheer lack of will on a political level to follow up certain leads or lines of enquiry seems astonishing, for instance, why isn’t the disused quarry in Kildare dug up and searched? As the families of the missing continue to fight for army assistance in searching for loved ones, politicians sight a lack of proof as reason enough to do nothing. Isn’t it about time we realised that missing people is a political issue that needs to be taken to the highest level and dealt with in full measure? I feel confounded by the lack of action, but particularly as a woman, I feel frightened that abduction and probable murder can flourish as a criminal activity, and thanks to a cash-strapped, agenda-based Government, crimes like this are allowed to remain unsolved?

He watched and I listened. It was so sad and frustrating to be this helpless and then when I came on here I read the message from Dermot Brown about his brother Derek and again one can feel the pain he has suffered.
I don’t have any words that would heal or bring comfort except that we all hurt with you when we hear or see these awful tragedies and I can’t imagne how brave you all are who have suffered by proxy against whatever acts were committed against your loved ones.
I light a candle and say a prayer for us all tonight.

I am just after reading the book “Missing”. My heart goes out to you all. I am 25 years old and have always hitch hiked, during the summer i hitched out of Dublin to Punchestown to the Witness Festival, a taxi driver gave me a lift to the gates but he went the back roads to it. In all that time I didn’t ask him to stop the car. How stupid of me. I was petrified until he met someone he knew and waved and beeped at him. I was just lucky that he turned out to be genuine. It was only after reading the book that i truly realised how lucky i was and i won’t be hitching again. All my prayers are with you and i hope one day that your hearts and minds are set to rest. Dermot Browne Jnr
Dublin, Dublin Ireland
* A friend gave me your address *
Good day to you all. My name is Dermot Browne (Jnr.) I am the younger brother of Derek Browne (RIP). Derek was found last Sunday and I just wanted to write a little something about my dear older brother. I miss Derek terribly, as do all of my family. In Dereks final days he must have been tormented by what he was about to do. He loved God, his family and the friends he had around him. He was a kind and friendly guy who had time for everybody. I spent months crying myself to sleep trying to hide my feelings from my family who were hurting. That pain of a missing brother has now been replaced by the pain of a lost brother. The fact that I will never be able to see or speak to my brother again tears me apart every day. I wish he had reached out to me or anyone and told us what he was going through. There are so many questions why. Questions I know there are no answers to, but I must ask all the same. I pray that all the families of missing persons do not have to go through what we went through and continue to go through. If you are a missing person, please call someone. A family member or a close one, just to let your family know you are alive. It really would make their pain more bareable. If you are the family of a missing person or a recently lost relative. My heart truely goes out to you. Indeed I offer my prayers and kind thoughts to you all each night and I hope and wish you well. I ask you all to pause after reading this and pray to your God for the safe return of these missing persons and spare a kind thought for my dear brother Derek. Derek I miss you always and love you very much. Your loving younger brother – Dermot. Forever in my heart…

I would first like the families of the missing people to know that you are in my thoughts. I recently read the book “Missing without trace in Ireland” and I found it very moving. In a number of the cases featured it is fairly obvious who is responsible for the abduction of the missing person and it is a pity that in these cases the gardai don’t have more powers available to question and put pressure on the suspects in order to solve the cases.

And another painful tear.

Come home to me.

So many hopes yet to dream
So many dreams yet to achieve.

My deepest admiration to the efforts of the gardaì and the famliys of these victims…may god give you all the strength you need to continue searching for your loved ones and bring the monsters responsible to justice. Looking for our son Matt Mullaney who is a 21 year old missing from art school in Florence since 2/1/03. Last seen in London by a young man who rode the train with him. He said he was hoping to make it to Ireland to find work. It is very much out of character for Matt to lose touch with him family and friends. We all miss him desperately. Please take a look at his face on Fr. Duffys’ site. We are most grateful to him for including Matt. Our prayers and thoughts are with all of you…

I just finished reading Barry Cummmins book “Missing”. Congratulations to him on such a well written book. Much praise also goes to Fr. Duffy for his website. Informative and I’m sure a source of comfort to the families who have lost someone.
I have followed the cases on the news and through articles and interviews. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Please have faith. Stay strong and never give up hope.
‘I have gone away for awhile,
But we’ll meet again someday.
Remember me as I was,
Long before this pain.
Remember me and then please smile,
For I am still right here.
And when you need a helping hand,
I promise I’ll be there.
So when you think of me don’t cry,
Just get that sparkle back in your eye,
And if you love me like you say,
Then you will wait for that day.’

I have been unable to reach my dear friend,William Murphy, for quite some time.
We started off as pen-pals back in 1969 and we were writing to each other for years. Every once in a while we would lose touch, but were able to get back together.
Back in The late 1980’s he came to New York City and we had a wonderful visit. He opened an overseas employment agency in Cork, but it wasn’t as successful as he had hoped and had to close the business.
I received several more letter from him. But, then, all correspondance stopped and I was never able to find him since.
I hope that someone might see this message and have some information for me. I sent seveal cards and letters to the addressses I had for him, but the last was returned with a “moved, no forwarding address” on the envelope.
Anything you might have for me would be gratefully appreciated.
Thank you…

Your site is excellent, although very sad. However, I feel that people would like to be able to help in some way and many must have noticed something odd about a neighbour or acquaintance who could be involved in a disappearance, but without anything more than a hunch to go on they would be afraid to bother the gardai. For example, when my son visited the area where my parents used to live outside Mullingar, he saw that their old house has been surrounded by bars and shutters like Fort Knox, and locks on the OUTSIDE, although there is definitely someone living there. Surely, in this computer age, some way could be arranged to collate odd bits of information – the man who drives off once a month when his mother is attending a hospital, and acts suspiciously on his return after dark, etc. Ireland is only a small country. Someone must know something about some of these people who are out there preying on young men and women. I am sure Operation Trace staff are doing their best with limited resources. The insurance hotline shows people are willing to speak up if given the chance. I know there would be problems collating all this information, but after the appropriate checks, could not the public be asked to join together to make a determined effort – maybe on one particular day in the year to comb the bogs and byways – to find these people. I, for one, although I have osteoarthritis in my knees, would be prepared to volunteer on the administrative side. I can think of nothing more heartbreaking than not knowing where a loved one is. If it were my child I would go mad.

Hello.
I am a mother whose son has been missing since 30 Nov 2002. It is two and a half months since I last saw my much loved son Ian (McGlynn). The anquish, the sadness, the feelings unsaid. The guilt I feel at not taking the time to really listen to his feelings. The love we share. The questions running over and over in my head. Is he alright. Is he dead, or did he just need another place to rest his head. ..My family and I are so anxious, and are trying all the ways we can to find him. We need to tell him just how much we really do love and appreciate him. The poem “If you have a tender message” , is so appropriate. Its meaning is so true for the missing person, and for the family members who perhaps also neglected to share tender moments more frequently. My son’s father is Irish, from Letterkenny, then Belfast. I always wanted to take a trip with Ian to ireland. I pray that I get the chance before too long. I miss him so . Thanks for the effort you have made on behalf of your missing loved one. It makes a difference. Hopefully .You and your family will have some good news regarding Gussie.
Regards Maggie

I remember you when you were just a “youngfella” starting out in the Priesthood in Grange Park in Raheny. I lived across the road from the Church and used to help out in the school etc. etc. I know that you wouldn’t remember me, but I remember your first Mass there. I am now living in Cork and my daughter used to be coached in tennis by Pearse Cremin, so that was how I checked out your site originally.
Please God some of the people will be found. The updated version of the site is excellent.
Best wishes in your endeavours and I hope you hear from your cousin.

I was listening to LMFM today and Ciara Breens mother was on talking about her daughters disappearance. the news castor said that the operation trace that was set up for missing people was now been closed down as they had no new developments. I think this is very sad and would like to do a radio programme on that site and other missing persons web site address. I work as a researcher for a voluntary radio show here in Dundalk and I always had a big interest in these peoples mysterious disappearance. Have any of these people contacted a medium or a good clairvoyant? If anyone ever needed me to help in any way to try and retrace their last steps and maybe find them I would love to help any way that I could, not for media reasons but I genually do care I also feel terrible for the families just not knowing. I pray everyday for their safe return or that their bodies would find a resting place.I can’t ever imagine going through what they are. My thoughts and prayers are with them all.

Dear Aquinas,
It was a delightful surprise to get linked through the Dublin Diocesean website and then going to your site. But then I got involved with the missing site and that has just captivated me. Thank you for the site which I have been aware about.
I hope you remember me? I taught religion in St. Mark’s a few years ago and now I am living in Baltimore, MD working for a parish as a DRE and Youth Minister!
But my interest in this site is real: I am a neighbour of the Cairns family and know Alice fairly well. I will never forget the weekend Philip went missing… It is ingrained in my generation and others since. Everyone in Ballyroan knows about it all and that is something that is not brought out in all this: the impact on the local community that is somehow brought together by something like this. I was in school with his sister Mary. and another untold story is that his neighbour had gone missing three years before and I remember that even more as I was in 5th year and in his daughter’s class too. And he has never been found. ( As far as we know…) He was declared dead about 6 years ago.
I live in a society now, that is full of missing posters on milk cartons, free flyers etc and the tragedy is appaling. Even a dedicated tv channel twice a week here in Baltimore broadcasts details of missing persons. Usually it is custody battles but there is the tragic missing too.
Anyway, just to say hello from over the water and thank you so much for all that you do with the sites. Say hello to all in Springfield. I miss the grit and the fun!! I hope that all goes well and I am so glad that there is a momument to everyone who has gone missing.. Here’s hoping that there will be a time when that can be turned into a celebration and the missing can see for themselves the love that is in that great statue.
All the best and God bless,
Lisa O’Reilly

As i look at all the missing people i really feel that the culprit is very much in existence and is very shrewd and calculating as no bodies are ever recovered. The current type of investigation is not working and it would appear that a certain cross route exists in his very location. It is really heartbreaking for the families who live through this un ending saga and no closesure. I myself used to hitch quite a lot in the late 70 and only once had a narrow escape and that was in the midlands. I will allways remember the character and he came from a horsey backround, very smooth and had the lure to pull one in but fortunately i smelt a rat and turned the conversation to change his thinking frame. I often wonder if he had any associations with abducting some of these missing people and it was maybe one of two times i went back via the midlands.
I often wonder did anyone else have any happenings of this nature or was it isolated??
I will always remember Mary Boyle, Jo JO Dollard and Annie McCarrig, something tells me they are not dead but are out of the country held against their will, I guess it is some powerful association that has the finances to construct such planning but nature has laws of its own as we learn from life.
No doubt it is an excellent site but the level of investigation is not queing in or targeting any one case which leaves a lot of questions un answered???

My deepest sympathy goes to the Donohue family following the discovery of Brian’s body. My sister met him on the Saturday night before he went missing and he seemed in great form.
