09/02/2010 Thursday 11th February 2010 marks the 10th Anniversary of the day Aengus “Gussie” Shanahan aged 20 vanished without a trace off the streets of Limerick.
Gussie, an employee of Dell was last seen at 10.30pm in Joseph Street, Limerick
Gussie’s parents Bob and Nancy, parents to 4 children are still desperate after all this time to learn the fate of their youngest child.
“Nothing but nothing can be as bad as not knowing what happened to my son. I can’t grieve. I can’t move on. My life has been a daily torment for the past 10 years” says Nancy.
Nancy suffered a stress-related stroke eight years ago. Yet despite her physical disability, it is her mental anguish and turmoil that is most painful and distressing to herself and to those around her. “I am sure he’d have rung me if he was alive. I believe he may have come to harm and I wonder did he suffer? Was he tortured? After 10 years of not knowing I am sure I could say “I forgive you” to someone who may have harmed my son. Just please tell me where he is. Tell me what happened to him”.
Bob Shanahan and his family have worked tirelessly distributing posters, conducting searches, visiting homeless shelters throughout Ireland following false sightings of Gussie. Bob says “If anyone can end this nightmare for my family I would be forever grateful”

| 02/02/2010 This month, Aengus (Gussie) Shanahan will be ten years missing on the 11 February. His family still do not know where he is or what happened to him on 11th February 2000 when he vanished from the streets of Limerick.
It is hard to believe that it is ten years. It was because of his disappearance that I set up this website nearly ten years ago, A lot has happened in those ten years and various organisations and websites for missing people have come and gone in that time. A lot of missing people have also been found in that time and reunited with family. Some have also been found deceased and their families have got the privilege of having a funeral ceremony. I hope that this website has been helpful to people who have someone missing and that it has helped to raise the issue of missing persons. I would like to thank all those groups like the Missing Persons Association in Cork and the National Missing Persons Helpline, the Gardai, the coast guard, and all the voluntary search and rescue groups including the civil defence, the RNLI life boat crews, , all the sub aqua, dog and mountain rescue units. They have all given so much to help the families of the missing and to bring an end to the nightmares of so many families.
I would again appeal to people who may have information about the disappearance of Gussie Shanahan to please come forward to the Gardai in confidence (Phone 1800 666 111) or pass the information on to the National Missing Persons Helpline (Phone 1890-442 552) or the Missing Persons Association (Phone 087-9609885) . Your information could help to end the nightmare for Gussie’s family and friends.
